As the first part of what will eventually become a wider CodersRank Badges theme, we are introducting Seniority Badges for all registered and eligible CodersRank users.

Last year, we have chatted with some of you to understand what it is that you like the most about your CodersRank profiles, and what you would like to see more of. Among the most popular answers were badges. In our classic formula, they have been used to showcase on your profile how highly you rank within the wider developer population in a given location, and among users of a particular technology.

We decided to add a new perspective into the mix. From now on, not only can you showcase your Leaderboard spot (you’re keeping the badges you’ve earned so far), but we will also estimate your seniority level in all technologies which you have used in your Git repos, and turn them into what we called Seniority Badges.

Methodology

How it works is quite simple. Depending on how long you’ve been using a given technology in your Git repositories integrated with CodersRank, we will assign a badge to your profile that reflects your experience with this technology. We have created the following badges for each of our technologies:

  • Associate Developer (weeks active on Git sum up to between 0.2 – 0.8 years)
  • Mid Developer (0.8 – 3.2 years)
  • Senior Developer (3.2 – 4.8 years)
  • Veteran Developer (4.8+ years)

To ensure that your background is represented in an adequate manner, make sure to integrate your account with all of your repositories that you’ve worked on.

Enabling Seniority Badges

In order to add to your profile all the badges that you’ve earned so far, all you need to do is log into your profile. Once logged in, you will see a pop-up informing you about new badges you have earned and prompting you to highlight your badges in a dedicated menu.

In case you think you might have earned some new badges that aren’t present in your profile yet, make sure to refresh your profile using the dedicated refresh button .

What about my Widgets?

These changes of course impact the Widgets, too! Make sure to refresh your Summary Widget so that it stays up to date with the new, cool, fresh badges that you have earned.

Got any feedback about this feature? Or about anything else in CodersRank? Or maybe you think you have the best idea for a new badge we could add? Head over to our Canny page where we gather all feedback from you – our users. Seniority Badge was prioritized thanks in part to how many upvotes it got on our board, and we’ll be taking inspiration from your requests more and more often!

And don’t forget about our Slack community – it’s a fantastic place to share CodersRank experiences or interact with CodersRank team in real time. See you there!
